The SIMPLE MODE really comes in handy for some of my guys who just need to batch plot or run some dynamically, project tagged, meta controlled scripts I have already setup.
In full blown mode there is a script filter button controlled through the...HurricaneDATAfilterSCR.dat file.
Would it be possible to have the same type of feature for SIMPLE MODE? A file something like ...HurricaneDATAfilterSIMPLESCR.dat , (controllable within SIMPLE MODE)
I think for SIMPLE MODE, sharing the same filterSCR.dat file may not lend itself well as the SIMPLE MODE guys will be "doing" different things.

Wow... No problem!
You have THAT MANY scripts in your Simple Mode!? Congratulations!
This should be no problem to implement. I'll just need some time.
Actually, you just touched on something I've been meaning to do... have an option (checkbox to allow the users to either see the SHARED filters, or USER SPECIFIC filters), as an option within the filter window)

At first I didn't have that many setup for SIMPLE MODE. But with all those new features, a lot of my scripts are now "self-tweaking", (which means I have some new Hurricane users). Having that button is a good way to list them by category. (keyword = category)
ORBinator PDF plot * TIF update * ...etc
Instead of a list of 20+, a couple clicks jump you into the list desired. Of course typing is an option as usual....but clicking is better sometimes.
Thanks!
Your idea with the shared scripts and user scripts is interesting! I'll look forward to it!

I think that this change should satisfy your requirements.
Both "Filter" selection screens (Full and Simple) have an extra checkbox to either show "Personal" saved filters, or public saved filters. The filters are saved in DAT files in the /DATA/ directory in plain text files.
Also, the checkbox setting is saved, so its value will stay whatever you last set it to.
Hope this helps!

Wow...Request Satisfied and then some! Thanks!
The "Show Personal Settings" option is an exceptional new feature! I would imagine anyone who uses Hurricane in a network environment will get some good use out of this one.
Your idea actually sparked a few thoughts, i.e. "Personal Favorites" & "Personal Filelists". The "Shared Favorites" and "Shared Filelists" are crucial to an effective use of Hurricane in a network environment. But, with an addition of a few more "personal" items... wow! look out

I look forward to it!
Do you know whether most of your Hurricane users are running Hurricane in a network environment
In my opinion...It's much more than just a AutoCAD script program if you do. |

Miksteele,
I'm afraid that based on the poll I conducted, it seems that a vast majority of users don't even know that the feature exists, but those that do, really use it to their advantage. (Some offices have over 50 users on a single network installation!)
Which begs me to ask, why so few? The FAQ has everything spelled out, you just have to browse it and take a few minutes to absorb. I guess people either don't read it, or read it, and don't see the value.
I have a feeling that most people buy Hurricane to perform a specific function, then when it does "it's thing", they are happy and don't bother to read/learn any more about it.
(I could be wrong... I hope I'm wrong!), but it is all too often, that I write a message to a user asking a questions and just "add" a few comments about other features they should "check into", and almost all the time, the response is "Wow... I never knew it could do that!", or "I wish I'd known that a month ago, I could have really used that!"
Ah well...
If there were only a way to tell someone everything about Hurricane in under 30 seconds...
I have this theory, I call it "The Ignore Culture"... ah but that's another topic all together... Maybe I'll stop rambling... it's way past my bedtime...

I'm with you on the "The Ignore Culture". Could be as simple as... people ignore what they don't understand. That's how SIMPLE MODE has helped some people in our office. The "scary" text they didn't understand wasn't there, but they could do so much!
I'll be honest though... Network Installation is a little hard to find in your FAQ's, even through the use of your SEARCH box. I am probably looking in the wrong place, But...
A NETWORK INSTALLATION is as simple as:
1. Install on computer ONE 2. Share the Hurricane folder on computer ONE 3. Create a shortcut on computers TWO, THREE, FOUR, etc. to \ONEHurricanehurricane.exe or better yet on computers TWO, THREE, FOUR, etc. map a drive out to \ONEHurricane browse to that drive and click the hurricane.exe 4. Now the whole office is one the same page
Plus, when updates are available...It's just one easy step! |
