Would it be a big deal to add TAG usage into the SAVEAS Options? Each of the following would be helpful to us:
STATIC TAGS USER TAGS PROJECT TAGS DYNAMIC TAGS
I have tried them within the "THIS LOCATION", "Output PREFIX" & "SUFFIX" options. But Hurricane Hurricane wasn't quite ready for that...
What do you think
This feature is already "META ready" using the following within the script:
;SAVEAS=TRUE ;SAVEAS.PREFIX="" ;SAVEAS.SUFFIX="" ;SAVEAS.THISLOCATION=""
and "META" means we have a SUPER Productive Feature...Just around the corner!!!

Miksteele,
Ok... try this on for size...
You can put any TAG.. in the PREFIX or SUFFIX, and "THIS LOCATION" text boxes (on the SAVEAS Tab).
For those of you just learning, I've included some links... Here is the SAVEAS Tab explained http://www.74mph.com/faq/FAQ00069.html Here are TAGS explained http://www.74mph.com/faq/FAQ00146.html
If you put TAGS in the PREFIX and SUFFIX areas, then the "Example Output Filename" will reflect what those tags are (if they are relevant).
Be careful though, as some things TAGS like $TIME_12$ or $TIME_24$ generate bad filenames because they use the ":" character (12:20:00 PM) (: * ? | / <> are not valid characters)
At this point Hurricane will generate the script with these characters present, but it obviously won't run in AutoCAD as your PC won't be able to create the files.
Let me know how it goes, and I can "adjust" it, if you have any problems with it. I would like to put the error checking in, but I'd like you to try it out first!
Wow... Using "C:DWG$YY$-$MM$-$DD$"" in the SAVEAS "This Location" Folder Spec is great... you can keep revisions based on date!! What a great idea!

It's very functional even without the PROJECT TAGS. They would be useful, but there are plenty of workarounds. Thanks again! |

Oh Boy!
I've got some debugging to do... Thanks for pointing that one out... (I bet you are the only one using these functions too!... but no problem!)
I'm just half-way through making a bunch of other major (but not obvious ) changes to the guts of it all, so this one will have to be blended into the next release as a beta.
I hope you can wait a little...
I'm sure glad I have users that are on the ball!
Regards, Bill

Of course I can wait... I just wanted to post it while it was fresh in my mind. I can always backpedal to v6.3.12 for it the work the old way.
Thanks! |

Yup
That is everything but the PROJECT TAGS worked in v6.3.12.
In v6.3.14 the PROJECT TAGS work, but all the other stuff I described in my 12/8/04 post occurs.

Hi Miksteele!
Here is the next stab as this. Sorry for the delay!
I think I've gone one step further... you can use TAGS mixed into the PROJECTTAGS section.
In other words, you can nest all other types of TAGS within the project tags. OMG, now you can have tags that reference tags... When will the insanity stop!? (I think this should be as complex as it should get ) or they are going to take me away...
This was quite the mindbender to get it to function, and hopefully I haven't missed the forest for the trees!
Let me know if you have any issues with this. Download Attachment: hurricane6.3.15.zip 166.32 KB
Also, this is a kind-of mid-release, as I've been playing with the registration screen and registration options. If anyone has any difficulty with your license, please revert to your previous copy. Users who are registered to the Workstation rather than the user may find that this version doesn't unlock. Users with "User" Licenses should have no problem.

I had a need for TAGS within TAGS since the beginning... almost! At least I'm not the only one that came up with that idea
I'll give this a spin! Thanks! |
