Posted - May 01 2003 : 09:30:51 AM I have found that Hurricane is an extremely efficient program to manage my drawings. The “filterable” scan feature is very powerful! I cant believe it took me so long to hit that + sign button!
From time to time I have a need to open READ ONLY drawings…I was wondering if a function like that could be added into Hurricane.
By "read only", I mean a drawing I cannot save without out doing a "saveas" within AutoCAD. This way I could open a bunch of drawings to review or to grab some details and the guy across the office could still open his file and make changes. It's the same "read only" I could do using the "OPEN" dialog box within AutoCAD, (the arrow to the right of the "OPEN" button).
Possibly a double-click with a “open read only” radio button ticked would be simple enough. Maybe that “open read only” radio button would “un-tick” itself after each use???
While I'm at it...how about the ability the select multiple "queued" files and open them all at once, (in writable or read only mode)?
What do you think

It can be done manually within AutoCAD's "OPEN" command dialog box. There is a little drop down menu next to the open button. That's it...
I have noticed that Hurricane has a safe guard NOT to open the same drawing twice. I like that. Wouldn't want to lose that. Maybe scrap this whole READ-ONLY thought... I'll survive... |

Posted - May 02 2003 : 08:28:32 AM The multiple-file load works slick! Thanks!

Posted - May 01 2003 : 9:54:32 PM Ok... here is your multiple-file load issue solved (I hope!)
You will be able to load multiple DWG (or any file for that matter), by highlighting them in the FILEQUEUE, then hitting the ENTER key.
I've put a stop-gap to keep someone from attempting to load too many drawings at a time, if you attempt to load more than 5, a message will pop-up asking if you want to continue. The message will pop-up asking to continue, every 5 files. I don't want someone to accidentally crash their computer by opening too many files!
Download Attachment: hurricane6014.zip 116.59 KB
You'll also notice that there are a few other changes... I've put "progress" indicators and STOP options, for some of the more lengthy functions like file verification, duplicate file removal etc...
You can just put the contents of this zip (hurricane6014.exe into your Hurricane directory, and run it. If you like it, then just drag a shortcut to your desktop. If not, you can always go back to the previous version, so don't delete your existing hurricane.exe file, cause this is only the next beta)
If this is what you are looking for, then I can add the same feature to files in the "Drawing File Selector" too.

Posted - May 01 2003 : 11:56:11 AM Hi Miksteele,
I'm not sure I understand what you require...
When you want to open a "read-only" drawing, do you mean by clicking on it in the File Queue or Drawing File Selector? If so, the only difference will be that AutoCAD prompts you to open it as "read-only". This is a function of AutoCAD.
After reading your message again, I'm inclined to think that you want to SCAN for READ-ONLY drawings. Is this the case?
The ability to open multiple queued files should be fairly easily implemented. Let me work on that.. but please elaborate on the read-only issue.
Thanks again! Bill |
