You can replace the first x number of characters with the renamer. Is there a way to replace the last x number of characters?

That's correct. Each name may be different depending on the part description so there may be only one of each name among many files.

I think I understand.
If you used the "REPLACER" option to eliminate "spacer" (for instance), then you would be left with 123-1, 456-2... with the 1 and 2 being unacceptable in the filename. Am I understanding?

What I typically need to do for a particular customer is just eliminate the last x number of characters from the filename. For example I submit files with dummy names such as "spacer1", "spacer2". They return the files with their part numbers prepended to the name, "123-spacer1", "456-spacer2". For final drawing submission I eliminate "-spacer1" etc. I need to keep the "-spacer1" so I can keep correlation to my assembly drawing until I have updated the assembly with their numbers, then I rename the detail files.

Hi Steven,
Typically the last X number of characters on a drawing all need to be different (i.e. numbered 001, 002 etc...)
Typically if they are all the same, there will file-naming "collisions" when renaming. I suppose this could be alleviated if the beginning of your filenames are all different, but I haven't seen much if this in CAD conventions.
Do you have a specific example you can share?, as there may be a way to achieve what you need with Hurricane as it currently exists, if not, a solution can be added to an update if appropriate.
