This message is for people who are running PC's that are having trouble installing/running Hurricane, as it "decompresses" itself each time it is run (this allows it to run from Network drives, or from USB flash drives without an "installer", thus making it "portable".
(Often "first-run" issues are caused by anti-virus software, or systems that are locked-down-tight). Please ensure your virus-scanner isn't causing you problems, by confirming it's settings.

If you are not comfortable at the command line, and don't know what you are doing, please do not proceed without someone who knows what they are doing at least beside you. (so you have someone to blame... if TSHTF lol).

There are times when you don't need the "portability", and just want it to run. But because of the lockdown on many systems, Hurricane won't at all (at least the first time). Generally, it usually boils down to two files that are having trouble being extracted and placed in the Windows support directories automatically. Hence you need to put them in their place, manually.

This message is to provide you those two files, and where to put them, in an effort to help those that want to help themselves.

There are two files that Hurricane needs to be located in the /System32/ directory, or the /WoW64/ directory.

These are the TABControl, as well as the Drawing-Preview control.

251.04 KB

You will also need to register these components by going to your command line (usually by typing CMD in the "run" prompt (bottom left corner))

You must navigate to the directory you've UNZipped the above files into (either /System32/ or /SysWoW64 using the command line... (CD.. CD\ etc... <- Wow, those were the DOS days eh?)

After you get to the command prompt... type:
REGSVR32 TABCTL32.OCX
THEN
REGSVR32 DWGPREV.OCX

(This should provide a "success" message unless you are really really, really locked down).

If it doesn't offer you a success message, you WILL need to speak to your IT department about installing Hurricane using Admin rights.

If you are still having problems, make sure you contact us for assistance.

Thanks!
